The Benefits of Collagen

Never in a million years did I think I’d be sitting here on my computer in quarantine working and writing from home but here we are.

I’ve started to lose count of how many days and weeks I’ve been home, but in this uncertain time, I’ve been trying my best to keep busy. For some like myself who need a distraction, we like to keep busy cleaning the house, cooking up a storm or working out. For others it may not be like that, you might not be able to process what’s going on or get out of bed. The way we handle the situation is completely different for every person. For me, I need to distract myself to keep my mind off of things.

Throughout the last 6 months, I’ve been on a skincare journey, learning about how products work, and react on my skin type. As I’m entering my late 20s, It’s become evident how I need to continue taking care of myself not just from the outside but also from the inside. Funny enough, after watching KUWTK (Keeping up With the Kardashians) Kourtney mentioned her brand Poosh which is focused on lifestyle and wellness. After reading a few blog posts I realized how important it is to put just as much focus that we do on the outside as we do on the inside.

One topic that came upon one of her live streams was taking supplements in addition to working out and eating well. I decided to do a little research specifically on college and realized it had a lot more benefits than I originally expected!

Collagen is the most abundant protein in your body. It’s the major component of connective tissues that make up several body parts, including muscles, ligaments, tendons and skin.

Consuming collagen has a variety of health benefits from relieving joint pain, strengthening your nails and hair to the appearance of your skin.

Skin:

Collagen plays a role in strengthening skin and helping with elasticity and hydration. As you age, your body produces less collagen which plays a part in dry skin and formation of wrinkles. I ended up placing an order on Amazon and purchased the Revive Multi Protein powder in hopes that this mixed with the use of my serums and moisturizers will keep me looking youthful for many years to come.

Some other benefits of ingesting collagen include

Reliving joint pain

Help prevent bone loss

Help boost muscle mass

Promote heart health

Hair/Nails

Brain Health (some claim it helps improve their mood) *I will do follow up stories after 30 days to see if I feel a difference mentally

Flavour?

SO, I’m sure you’re all wondering… is there a taste to it? Noooot really… I purchased the “flavourless” powder and put it to the test! The first time I mixed it in plain cold water, and it didn’t have a flavour per se, but it did have a slight after taste which I didn’t love. Next, I added it to my coffee and thankfully there was no taste/ after taste! There are also flavoured options like blueberry and lemon or even a collagen creamer for coffees or teas, so options for everyone.

All and all, I’m excited for this next chapter in my health and wellness journey, it’s been fun learning about the benefits of collagen for both the inside and outside of my body. Next post will be about other health and wellness products to help our mental health during this unprecedented time.

Stay safe and healthy!
